DEFINITION
A wide area network is two or
more local area
networks that are connected together over a wide geographic area. This may
be networks located across town, across the state, across the country or across
the world. To implement a wide area network, you will need to contract with a
telecommunications company to establish the data links.

whick some of the links between nodes are carried by open connection or virtual
circuit by open connection or virtual circuit in some larger network instead of
by physical wires
